Do or Donut, There is No Try: Twisted Halo Donuts Set to Join Shelburne Farmers Market This Summer
For Shelburne native, Emma Slater, like many, the pandemic awakened a love of baking as a way to pass the time and distract from the chaos of reality. Now two years later, Slater has turned her hobby into a business.
“ It started just for fun. I work at a coffee shop and we did like baking challenges together throughout the pandemic, and so, kind of just stemmed from that. Me and a couple of other baristas having fun making donuts. Our first few batches weren't great, but eventually, we got something that we're really happy with and then more and more people start asking for them.” Said Slater.
When asked why Shelburne Famers Market was the perfect venue for Twisted Halo Donut’s newest popup, Slater emphasized the community and the importance of supporting local businesses.
“ I just love the town of Shelburne. But I also feel like I have a special connection with a lot of the regular customers who come to the shop.”
“Out of the philosophy is really important of supporting other businesses that are local because like for me buying flour that's local is really important because I want to support agriculture because I love the way Vermont looks like.”
Quality is key at Twisted Halo Donuts. The dedication is seen in the process of their signature brioche donut.
“It takes about 18 hours just to prepare the dough from start to finish. It's like, pretty intensive in terms of like the amount of time, but also attention to detail because they're very delicate and sensitive to different changes in temperature. But the reason why it’s (the dough) kind of stuck it out and I continue to make them is because your final product is super light and fluffy.” Slater stated.
Sweet not your thing? Twisted Halo Donuts will also be serving savory brioche bowl grilled cheeses made with the same brioche dough base as the donuts.
